Sally’s pathway to her challenging and rewarding role as a Developer in DairyNZ’s Productivity Team illustrates it is possible to have a successful career in the dairy industry coming from a city upbringing. Her determination and resilience helped overcome her lack of knowledge, background or experience in the dairy industry. She is adamant that other young people can do what she has done.
Whilst completing her degree at Lincoln University, Sally made sure she gained the practical experiences she needed for her career by doing practical work in the summers. Going on to complete her Master’s degree has set her up for a bright future with in-depth research knowledge.
Sally’s current role as a developer at DairyNZ has real variety and challenge. “I work with vets, rural consultants and DairyNZ extension and science personnel to develop tools and resources and run programmes for our dairy farmers. It’s a farm systems approach embracing animal reproductive performance and pasture management. It provides me with variety in my daily work.”
