In June, the Minister of Immigration approved a Class Border exception for 200 migrant dairy farm workers (and their families) to enter New Zealand’s border, to be employed in the dairy sector.
There are two categories of workers (and their families):
- 150 herd managers or assistant farm managers
- 50 farm assistants (for critical need areas only)
For any Border Class exceptions there is an additional step in the immigration process which must be managed by an industry body.
Due to this we’re now urgently working with Federated Farmers, the Ministry for Primary Industries and Immigration NZ to confirm how the process will work including criteria, obligations, costs and timeframes. There are several complexities and we are working on your behalf to ensure the application process is fair and robust.
We expect the application process will open during July. We’ll let you know as soon as we know more.
