Underpasses are often necessary where stock regularly cross a busy road, or are installed for convenience where farms have been joined. A typical underpass is simply a large box culvert installed under the road to allow the passage of stock and farm vehicles. It is important to meet both district and regional council rules and requirements in the design, installation and management of underpasses.
This DairyNZ Farmfact includes information about the siting and design of road underpasses as well as materials and installation, effluent management, and cost consideration.
