Anna Ramsay
Area Manager - South Otago/Eastern Southland
With a background in ruminant health and nutrition, Anna enjoys learning, making connections and helping farmers find the people, information and support they need.
Anna grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Her career has centred on ruminant health and nutrition, including six years working in veterinary clinics and a year with an animal nutrition company.
Her move to New Zealand started with what was meant to be a short working holiday. Soon after arriving, Anna took on a role as a large animal veterinary technician, spending her first few month’s teat-sealing.
As she learnt more about dairy farming in New Zealand, Anna found DairyNZ’s online information and tools useful. “I saved it to my browser’s ‘favourites’ tab. It helped me learn a lot.”
Today, that interest in learning and sharing knowledge is an important part of how Anna works with farmers and rural communities. She describes herself as the “middlewoman”, connecting farmers with DairyNZ’s people, knowledge and support, while also building relationships with rural professionals and the wider community.
“I’m all about connections, so I take every opportunity to attend local events, visit farmers and local businesses to keep in touch.”
Anna also values the different knowledge and experience across DairyNZ’s Lower South Island regional team. “We’re all passionate and have our own niche interests, so together we work very well.”
For Anna, those connections extend beyond the farm gate. She values the role rural professionals, businesses and communities play alongside dairy farmers.
“We’re primarily here for farmers, but we also value the wider community around them. Supporting those connections is an important part of what we do.”
Outside work, Anna Ramsay enjoys swimming, running, cycling, local sports events and riding her horse, Bandit.
