Renee says her role at DairyNZ is about helping Central Canterbury farmers connect with each other, share what works and access practical information and support.

“Building trusted relationships with farmers is a big part of my role” explains Renee. “I can help connect DairyNZ’s research with the challenges farmers are working through on farm. With regulation and technology continuing to change, having the right information and support can make things easier “

I won’t always have the answer, but I’ll know where to look or who to connect you with. Often, that means bringing the right people, information, or opportunities to farmers so they can help them make decisions that support a profitable and sustainable farm business.

Renee says that as a young person starting her career in the dairy sector, she’s learnt so much from the older reps in the area. “While it may not sound appealing, the hour-long yarns about fodder beet while standing in the rain have taught me far more than a PowerPoint ever did!”

Renee says every conversation with farmers and rural professionals is a chance to learn something.

“Keeping up with industry changes and research helps us give farmers practical, relevant support. Hearing directly from farmers also helps us understand what’s useful to them.”

In her down time, Renee enjoys playing squash, and she’s the secretary for the Dunsandel Young Farmers’ Club and health and safety officer on the Tasman District Young Farmers’ regional executive.

Passionate about people, Renee says helping farmers is what makes the role rewarding.

 “Having grown up in a family of five dairy farming in Maungaturoto, Northland, I have a real appreciation for what farmers go through on a day-to-day basis. If I can help someone's business in even the smallest way, then I feel I have done my job.”
