Scholarship winners are mentored and supported and are offered a tremendous opportunity to kick start their careers.
From August 2021 DairyNZ will no longer award undergraduate scholarships. We will continue to honour our commitments to existing undergraduate scholars through to the conclusion of their studies.
When DairyNZ scholarships were first introduced 20 years ago, the most pressing workforce need for dairy farmers was finding rural professions who understood dairy. This is no longer the case – in part due to the success of the DairyNZ scholarships programme.
Today, farmers have very different workforce needs and are struggling to find staff to work on their farms. The tertiary landscape has also changed significantly with the introduction of fees-free study for first-year students.
DairyNZ will focus its attention and resources toward attracting new people into the dairy sector to help meet the needs of our farmers. We are doing this through a targeted GoDairy campaign.
We will be developing another initiative to meet the needs of our farmers and sector over the next few months. So, watch this space.
