Jane believes “no man (or woman) is an island; work shouldn’t be either”. She values working with colleagues and external sector partners to provide farmers with the people support they need.

“When everyone works as a team, we do better for our farmers,” explains Jane. “Especially when that’s underpinned by research, expertise and integrity. Working with partners helps us to deliver more for farmers without wasting time, effort, and resources.

“Everyone does better with support. Dairy farmers are smart enough to embrace and contribute to what we’re doing to magnify the support we can give them. Sector support means farmers can focus more energy into their farming business, their family, and their community.”

Before joining DairyNZ, Jane gained her Master of Science in Chemistry with First Class Honours, worked in a laboratory developing new adhesives, then turned commercial - becoming an Australasian market manager for a global chemical company.

“I’m a proud Waikato sheep and beef farmers’ daughter and granddaughter, with three boys of my own,” says Jane. “That’s why I came to DairyNZ: I wanted to unlock my passion for working with rural people.”

Being part of DairyNZ’s People team, means Jane’s goal is to have great people in great jobs, in great workplaces, on all dairy farms.

“We focus on credible information, practical tools and strong partnerships to support farmers in creating workplaces that attract and retain people on-farm. The more capable farmers and their teams are, the better decisions they make - while increasing profit and leading future thinking and innovation. We also influence sustainable policy in relation to immigration, skills and training, and health and safety.”

Jane says her colleagues are talented, work hard, and laugh often.

“We’re always thinking about the future of dairy farming and how we can support that. Helping people is the most rewarding part of my role. I genuinely believe that if people have a good day at work (whether they’re an employer or an employee), they’ll go home satisfied and thrive in life - in their relationships with family and friends, and within themselves.” ”
