Chief Science and Innovation Officer
David is DairyNZ’s Chief Science and Innovation Officer, leading the organisation’s research and science, economics, modelling, research farms, and NZ Animal Evaluation teams.
A water quality scientist with more than 20 years of national and international experience, he is passionate about delivering science-based solutions that help New Zealand dairy farmers become more profitable, sustainable, and resilient.
Since joining DairyNZ in 2013, David has led strategy, investment, and operational governance across diverse portfolios spanning science, policy, and extension. His previous roles include Environment Manager, Strategy and Investment Leader for Responsible Dairying, GM Sustainable Dairy, and GM Farm Solutions and Policy.
Prior to DairyNZ, David worked internationally as a water quality scientist and advisor for Deltares, an independent research institute based in the Netherlands and Singapore. He holds a PhD in limnology and MSc in freshwater ecology from the University of Waikato.
