When you become a member of DairyNZ, you're not just becoming part of the dairy community - you're gaining a real voice in the future of our sector.
As a member, you have the right to vote at the annual general meeting and special meetings of members, which includes voting on Directors. Members also receive a copy of the annual report.

Do I have to pay the levy if I’m not a member?
All farmers that produce Milksolids for sale to a dairy processor are required to pay the levy – even if they are not a member of DairyNZ. Therefore, you will pay the levy regardless of whether you are a member.
What benefits do I have as a member?
As a member, you will get all the benefits of a levy payer. However, as a member you also have the opportunity to vote on who should be a Director of DairyNZ. Directors play an integral part in leading the Governance of DairyNZ and set its strategy and performance.
You will also receive a copy of the annual report.
Why become a member?
DairyNZ is an Incorporated society, and as a levy payer you can become a member.
Previously, new levy payers automatically became members. Changes to the Incorporated Societies Act means that all new dairy farmers (from October 2024) need to consent to becoming a member of DairyNZ Inc. Unfortunately, we can’t simply make membership automatic.
DairyNZ needs a formal record that you consented to membership, either by signing a membership form or consenting through the online form.
What if I don’t?
You will still be required to pay the levy. Membership of DairyNZ Inc is not a requirement to pay the levy.
The main difference is that you won’t have input into the running of DairyNZ such as voting for Directors. Directors play an integral part in leading the Governance of DairyNZ and set its strategy and performance.
What if I decide that I don’t want to be a member anymore?
You can contact us by email at membership@dairynz.co.nz to let us know that you don’t want to be a member any longer. We can then confirm your membership details and cancel your membership.
