In this module, we look closely at some examples of common feeds for dairy cows, compare what's in each one, and what that means on farm. By the end of this module, you'll be able to:

  • Recall how energy in feed is measured.
  • Define the key components of a feedstuff analysis report.
  • Identify 12 common feeds by sight.
  • Identify the energy, protein, soluble sugars, starch (SSS), and neutral detergent fibre (NDF) levels of a range of common feeds.
  • Identify the key on-farm implications of differing levels of energy, protein, SSS, and NDF in common feeds.

The module should take 15-20 minutes to complete.
