DairyNZ seeks new associate director
DairyNZ is looking for a new associate director and dairy farmers interested in progressing their governance career and contribution to the sector are encouraged to apply.
DairyNZ chair Jim van der Poel says the board is excited to provide this unique opportunity to farmers, to support their growth and sector experience.
“The associate director role allows farmers to contribute directly to DairyNZ by participating in discussion and debate, while gaining governance experience,” says Mr van der Poel.
“We see real value in having farmers join us as associate directors, as they gain insight into what It is like in the board room, see what is happening in the sector and what we are working across.
“Our board also gains great value from having another voice and perspective around the table, helping shape board discussions and decision-making processes.”

DairyNZ has an important role in terms of representing New Zealand dairy farmers and supporting them through investment in research, development, advocacy and extension activities with farmers.
Since associate director roles were introduced to DairyNZ in 2013, 13 dairy farmers have been involved, contributing alongside the eight sitting directors.
“All farmers are encouraged to consider this opportunity and apply to be an associate director. It gives a unique opportunity to be involved with DairyNZ and understand how we address key issues that face our sector, now and in future,” says Mr van der Poel.
“We are looking for farmers interested in taking a leadership step and bringing fresh insight and perspective to our board meetings.”
Applications
There is one position open to current levy-paying dairy farmers who have a proven commitment to governance and aspire to be a leader in the sector.
Associate directors are non-voting roles and are appointed to attend eight board meetings between October 2023 to October 2024.
